Yes. With parent consent, collaboration with school teams can be arranged.

Every child develops at their own pace. While some children may simply need more time, delayed speech and language development can sometimes indicate that additional support would be beneficial.

The earlier concerns are identified, the earlier families can receive guidance and support. Even if therapy is not needed, a consultation can provide reassurance, education, and recommendations tailored to your child.

Family history can certainly be part of the picture, but it should not be the only factor considered.

Some children who talk late catch up independently, while others may benefit from support. Looking at the whole child, including their communication skills, understanding of language, play skills, social interaction, and overall development, provides a clearer picture.

If you have concerns, an assessment or consultation can help determine whether your child’s communication development is progressing as expected.

Children develop differently, and there can be variation in when communication milestones are reached.

However, concerns about communication should not be dismissed based solely on gender. If your child is struggling to communicate, understand language, interact socially, or meet expected milestones, it is worth discussing your concerns with a speech-language pathologist.

You never lose anything by asking questions and gathering information.

Speech, language, motor, social, and cognitive development are related but separate areas of development.

A child may be developing well in one area while experiencing challenges in another. Strong motor skills do not always predict communication development.

If you have concerns about speech or language, it is best to discuss them with a qualified professional rather than waiting and wondering.

Understanding language and expressing language are different skills.

Some children understand a great deal but have difficulty expressing themselves verbally. Others may use gestures, sounds, or non-verbal communication effectively but still benefit from support to develop spoken language skills.

A consultation can help determine whether development is progressing as expected.

Speech therapy is rarely a quick fix.

Communication growth happens when children are supported consistently across their everyday environments.

Think of therapy as a partnership. The speech-language pathologist provides assessment, direction, strategies, and expertise. Parents, caregivers, educators, and support teams help create opportunities for those skills to grow throughout the week.

Parents are the superheroes. The SLP is the catalyst that helps everyone work together toward the child’s goals.

The greatest progress often happens between sessions, when strategies are incorporated into everyday routines, play, conversations, and learning opportunities.

One of the most important things you can do is connect with your child through everyday interactions.

Talking, reading, playing, singing, exploring interests, and following your child’s lead can all support communication development.

Small changes in how we interact with children can often have a significant impact.

No. Families are welcome to contact Sheba Speech Services directly if they have questions or concerns.

Sometimes a brief conversation can help parents better understand whether an assessment, consultation, therapy, or simple monitoring may be appropriate.
